Learning Outcome
The purpose of the Neuroscience Methods Club is to widen your knowledge about methods used in neuroscience research. This is useful for applying the method in your own research and it will improve your understanding of scientific papers. This seminar is an open forum where you can address problems applying the respective method and discuss possible solutions. In addition, the Neuroscience Methods Club will also help to improve your presentation skills.
Structure
Suggested rules:
- One member per session chooses a method that he/she uses in the lab, prepares background material, and presents the method using a flipchart, PowerPoint, etc. (please bring your own laptop if you prepare an electronic presentation!). Handouts have to be prepared for the other members.
- Preparatory material (e.g. book chapters, papers) is sent to all the members at least one week before the session.
- All members read the material and participate actively in the discussion.
- All members should attend every meeting, unless they are out of town, sick, etc.
- Members take turns presenting methods.
- Last, but as important as the other rules: the member who presents a paper brings a small snack (e.g. fruits, chocolate, cookies) to his/her session.
