Research Focus:
This autonomous research group focuses on the elucidation of structure, function, and manipulation of cell-cell contacts. The major objective is to explore tight junctions (TJ) in barrier-forming endothelial and epithelial cells under normal and pathological conditions to disclose mainly neuropathophysiological mechanisms, such as stroke or lesional epilepsy, for better therapy. On the other hand, the development of new strategies specifically modulating the blood-brain barrier (BBB) may lead to improved drug delivery.
