I am interested in the neural correlates of self-driven behaviour. How do motivational factors and environmental constraints determine our decisions? Behaviour can only be efficient in a fundamentally uncertain world by keeping a careful balance between endogenous and exogenous control. Yet, research in the past largely put subjects into fully determined situations – disregarding endogenous decision processes. By means of behavioural and neuroscientific methods (multi-voxel pattern analysis of BOLD-fMRI) the interplay of motivational factors and contextual variables will be assessed in a modified task switching paradigm.
